Vera
Vera is another town with two distinct areas, the pueblo with its historic streets and lovely Square, and the Playa. Vera is a prosperous and recently modernised town with a great variety of shops, many selling locally made handicrafts. Vera has an extensive street market on Saturdays. It is renowned as a centre for excellent cuisine and tapas in the bars with local restaurants such as La Terraza Carmona winning national and international awards.
The railway station for the new AVE high speed railway line will be located mid-way between Vera town and the Playa area near to the Mercadona supermarket and private international school of Colegio Valdeserra. This of course adds value to all property in the coastal area as it will be simple short train journey to Madrid so more madrileños will create a weekend and holiday home here.
Vera is easily accessed from both the A7/E15 coastal motorway as well as the AP7 toll motorway. Almeria Airport is 55 minutes drive, Murcia San Javier 80 minutes, and Alicante a little over 2 hours.
San Juan de los Terreros
is the most south western coastal town within the province of Almeria (region of Andalucia) located in a beautiful unspoilt corner and adjoining the region of Murcia (nearest large town being Aguilas). Terreros is renowned for its exceptional “family safe” gently sloping beaches and remains very popular with the Spanish every summer, many of whom have holiday homes here and de-camp to their home at the beach for the entire 3 months of school holidays! There are also some lovely coves hidden away as well as the old castle fort (dating back to 1764) where you can have a drink in the grounds and take in the stunning coastline from Cabo Cope down to Carboneras!
San Juan de los Terreros is easy to reach as the town is just 10 minutes easy drive from the AP7 toll motorway junction number 890. There is a weekly long distance coach service and the railway station at Jaravia just 5 minutes drive from Terreros town centre offers a twice daily train service that connects to Lorca and Murcia.
The excellent coastal motorway network, means that Almeria airport is 55 minutes drive, Murcia San Javier is 70 minutes drive and Alicante is 2 hours away. Corvera International airport will be about 80 minutes away once it is open.
Terreros has a lovely long paseo (esplanade) which always has at least one of the chiringuitos (beach restaurants) open all year round. There are also a few hotels/hostales and a good selection of bars and restaurants covering Spanish, Italian, Belgian, english and Chinese cuisine. Terreros has its own Health Centre, pharmacy, two large supermarkets, and a small selection of other shops.
San Juan de los Terreros has a wonderful micro climate as it is sheltered by the beautiful mountains of the Sierra del Aguílon which provide a stunning silhouette to our spectacular sunsets. Terreros also has all the facilities of a city right on its doorstep with the fishing port of Aguilas being just 8km drive away with its enormous town centre, shopping centre and Ten Pin Bowling and just 12 km from the largely agricultural town of Pulpi, the municipal centre to which Terreros belongs.
Mojacar
still retains its Moorish character and architecture and is located on a rocky hilltop in the Sierra Cabrera mountains overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The Sierra Cabrera is a truly stunning backdrop that changes colour as the day progresses including orange and purple. The beautiful bright light here and the 3000 hours of sunshine guaranteed each year has made this area very attractive to artists, photographers and sculptors as well as for year round living and holiday-making.
As a whole the town offers something for everyone, for both holidaying and full-time living. There are many places of architectural and historical interest, such as the Castle, the Church of Santa Maria, the Fuente (where people can still collect spring water to drink), the Plazas, and the City Gate. There is an exceptional range of restaurants and bars to choose from catering for all tastes, including Indian and Mexican and with many restaurants in the pueblo offering breath-taking views of the bay and wider coastline.
Mojacar has two distinct elements, the old traditional white-washed hill-top pueblo (village) with its winding, narrow cobbled streets and dates back over 4000 years and the Playa (beach) with its 17km of sandy beaches some 2km away, of which only half have been developed so its an area just designed for relaxing and de-stressing.
The two parts of Mojacar are connected by a lovely rose lined road, (good to walk down but not up), and a regular and reliable bus service. Mojacar beach resort has strict planning rules that limit residential properties to just two floors and hotels to no more than 4 floors so the ambience and natural beauty of the area is maintained making Mojacar a very attractive place to live and work.
The Moors and Christians festival every June is an integral part of Mojacar life and is a spectacle that re-enacts and celebrates the expulsion of the Moors by the Christians.
Mojacar has shops in both parts of the town, public swimming pool and sports centre open year round, a Health Centre, farmacias, vets, dentists, private gyms, and many shops and boutiques. There is an 18 hole Golf course at Marina de la Torre which provides a very challenging round of golf whilst set amongst spectacular views of both country and Mediterranean coastline. Market Day in Mojacar is every Wednesday.
Turre
Is located just 5km inland of Mojacar and 50 minutes easy drive from Almeria airport.
It is a Moorish town and set in the stunning Sierra Cabrera, an exceptionally beautiful and protected mountain range which supplies the town with its drinking water. Turre has recently modernised its main square which offers a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by at one of the bars. There is a wide variety of shops in Turre including a huge international supermarket catering for all tastes, as well as numerous restaurants that are well regarded by locals. Turre has two Indian restaurants. Cortiojo Grande has its own golf course just outside Turre offering 9 holes and wonderful views, great for golfers and bird watching!
Market Day is Friday in Turre and very popular.
